As a trained Medical Technologist (1989), I have worked in various medical laboratories in Quebec and Ontario until 2016, following a microprogram in management at École nationale d'administration publique; I was Regional Coordinator of Medical Biology for the Outaouais region, overseeing about 197 employees, supported by five managers, in seven laboratories and two external collection centers. In the Fall of 2022, I applied for a position as head of the quality department of medical biology, I am very happy to hold this position, because quality and standards are my passions. This position allows me to realize my full potential and improve quality in the labs.
I believe that my vast experience, my enthusiasm and my command of ISO standards will ensure that, if elected, I will bring innovative ideas to the table. I would like to help promote our beautiful profession and, above all, make the public aware of it.

I am pleased to submit my application for the volunteer position as Director of Quebec. After graduating from Cégep de St-Hyacinthe in 2005, I have taken an approach based on curiosity, discovery and achieving excellence throughout my career. My unique career path has led me to work across Canada. I first started my career as a Phlebotomist for those in need of home care in beautiful Quebec City. I then had the opportunity to participate in the Canadian Health Measures Survey, which allowed me to work with medical technologists from different backgrounds and to improve my English language skills. My professional journey then took me to British Columbia where I was fortunate enough to work in a small community as a Lab Supervisor. Returning to Quebec, I acted as Team Leader during the pandemic. Then, I continued my university studies to earn a Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences from Thompson Rivers University. Becoming a CSMLS Director for Quebec is therefore a natural progression. I also believe that my experiences can inspire people to realize that it is possible to thrive in a diversified career as a medical technologist by thinking outside the box and capitalizing on exploration.

Allow me to introduce myself: Sylvie LeBreton, medical technologist. I graduated from New Brunswick in 1986, and have worked various shifts, days, evenings, nights, on call in different laboratories.
I have worked in the following positions: casual, part-time, full-time as General Technologist to Chief Technologist in New Brunswick and General Technologist in Kuujjuaq in 2012, Quebec, General Technologist to Assistant Lead in Fermont, Quebec since 2014.
Currently, I am in phased retirement, on union leave for the position of President of APTS Saguenay Lac-St-Jean Côte Nord Laboratories. I represent all medical technologists in Côte-Nord.
I previously served on the CSMLS Board of Directors from 2008 to 2013 as Bilingual Director and Director, Atlantic.
Given that since October 2021 I have been in phased retirement, I have a little more time to give to one of the major issues: the labour shortage. During my time on the CSMLS Board of Directors, it was said that 50% of technologists would retire in 5 years... Here we are!
