With a Diploma in Chemical laboratory technician from Seneca College and certifications in laboratory Assistant, cannabis industry sanitation, and WHMIS, I have a strong background in laboratory work and experience in both medical and cannabis production facilities. I am skilled in operating and maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment, performing quality control and assurance activities, and following safety procedures.

My experience as a sanitation supervisor has honed my leadership and organizational skills, as well as my ability to train and educate team members on proper techniques and procedures. My education in Chemical has provided me with a solid foundation in scientific principles and laboratory practices, making me a valuable asset in any laboratory or production environment.

Currently, I am working as a Laboratory Assistant at Alberta Precision Laboratories, where I collect and process specimens, operate and maintain laboratory instruments, and ensure quality control and safety procedures are followed. Prior to this, I worked as a Sanitation Supervisor at Decibel Cannabis Company, where I managed a team of sanitation staff, developed and implemented sanitation schedules and protocols, and ensured compliance with health and safety regulations.

I am a proud MLA who has been serving the community for over 12 years now. Healthcare needs us, now more than ever, and given the opportunity, I would like to lend my voice to represent Lab Technicians across Canada as their Board of Director [BOD]- MLA.
Here’s a little about my life: I got a B.Sc in Biology [McMaster Univ.], Med Lab Technician Certificate [Centennial College] and have work experience in Core Lab, Histology and Surgical Pathology [Sunnybrook and UHN]. When not working, I pick up new hobbies like tennis, badminton, acrylic painting and culinary experimentation, as I believe trying new things is a great way to meet people.
Having been an active volunteer with the CSMLS for over a decade, I had the pleasure of spending time with MLAs/ MLTs across various provinces and learn through shared experiences. As the BOD, I hope to make our voices heard and share the progress our members have made. MLA recognition is a cornerstone of my platform. I also hope to make our members more aware of the opportunities CSMLS has to offer and the many resources available to them.
If you, as members, elect me to represent MLAs on the BOD panel, I will do my best to become the voice of lab professionals without whom the healthcare system would not be what it is today.

I am excited to apply for the position of Director, MLA with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science. My motivation to serve is borne out of passionate desire to contribute and further raise the bar of stewardship in representing the MLA as we deepen implementation of core national mandate. As an internationally trained immigrant, the informing power of education in solving human problems has spurred me to acquire a Bachelors degree in MLS (Nigeria), Masters of Public Health (Nicaragua), and post graduate certification in Epidemiology (USA). I currently work with Northern Health, BC.
With a diverse background and over a decade professional experience from Africa to North America, I have been privileged to serve as Honorable Councilor Ward 7, Laboratory Epidemiologist, Policy expert in bureaucracy, Chief Medical Laboratory Scientist and Covid-19 Screening Team lead. My quest for Service on a global scale propelled me at some point to launch into the International Development space where I held different position as Senior Technical Associate-Lab Services, Laboratory Manager with PEPFAR/Global funds supported projects (KP-Care 1, i-Cares) in rolling out interventions towards achieving UNAIDS 95:95:95 agenda and viral suppression amongst People Living with HIV in Africa.
With my experience in government, Clinical laboratory management and international development Space juxtaposed with my education albeit international exposure, I intend to deploy my resourcefulness to the services of CSMLS if given the opportunity. The reality of our times requires some innovation, enlightened advocacy to stakeholders, consultation, professional visibility, capacity development and MLA regulation to give more meaning and significance to our frontline professional gatekeepers. I believe that the professional visibility we want in a post-covid era can be amplified when policy window of government is explored to articulate a new charter for the MLAs vide regulation.

My name is Nickole Wlasichuk and I am currently the Specimen Management Lead at Whitehorse General Hospital Laboratory in the Yukon. As the Lead, I not only oversee 14 MLAs and 3 Administrative Assistants, I also train community nurses in LIS, develop SOPs and work closely with Management and Technical Lab Leads. I have worked as a Medical Laboratory Assistant in Whitehorse since 2018. Even as a Lead, I still maintain MLA duties as required to maintain my competencies. I started my career in laboratory science in 2013 at Robertson College in Winnipeg graduating with Honours and was an MLA in Manitoba before venturing to Canada's arctic region. I have been an Alternate Member of the CSMLS National MLA Certification Exam Panel since 2019.
I am running for the Director-MLA because I feel MLAs are in integral part of laboratory services that are not as well-known as the MLT profession. As an MLA, we are the front-line workers connecting with patients plus there is so much more to what we do as a profession besides phlebotomy. We as MLAs wear many hats and are the multi-taskers of the profession. Most emphasis of laboratory is based on the technology side that provides more science-based results not how the samples are obtained. As a MLA Director, a key objective is to expand the public's knowledge of what a MLA does as most of patients we encounter assume that a nurse is drawing their blood. The phrase "knowledge is power" is key in educating Canadians who do not work in healthcare. This leads to better patient care and patients being proactive in their health.
